Eswatini hill peoples

Farmers of the hills and valleys of today's northern Eswatini and the Barberton country, with hunter-gatherers in the mountains whose rock art survives.

Early farmers lived here from the first millennium; the Later Iron Age before the Nguni kingdoms of the eighteenth century is thinly documented, and nothing can be said of rulers in 1200. The Swazi kingdom is much later.
