East of the Darial, in the mountains of the Assa, Argun and Sharo-Argun, live the Nakh peoples whom the Georgian sources call Durdzuks, Kists and Ghlighvs, ancestors of the Chechens and Ingush.
They live in free clan communities with tower villages and their own assemblies. Georgian and Alan missionaries are spreading Christianity among them in the 12th and 13th centuries, and Georgia counts them among the peoples under its influence; no tribute is recorded for 1199-1200.
