The dry coastal grassland from the Densu to the mouth of the Volta, with the Shai hills and the Krobo mountain rising from it.
The Ga tradition brings the Ga to Accra from the east in the sixteenth century (King Ayi Kushi, 1483-1519 in one reckoning), so they are not here in 1200; the Kpeshie people of the Accra area are counted as Guan. The Dangme, who hold the coast from Kpone to Ada and the hills inland, remember an earlier home at Lolovor near the Shai hills; the dating of the Dangme hill towns (Ladoku, the Shai hills sites) is not something we could check in this session. On 1 January 1200 the plains are held by small communities of farmers, fishers and salt-makers of the Songor lagoon whose names are not known.
