Raiding belt · The British Isles · as at first light, 1 January 1200

North Munster war zone

The plain between Limerick and the Blackwater, from the Shannon to Fermoy and the Galtees: in 1199 'the English waged a great war on the Irish and the land from the Shannon to Feardruim was laid waste' (Mac Carthaigh's Book).

De Burgh's new castles (Ardpatrick 1198, Askeaton 1199) stand in a wasted country; Mac Carthaig, the Ui Briain and Ua Caim raid back, and Cathal Crobderg will raid Castleconnell and Limerick in 1200.
